Learn To Row Level 1

Two Hour Beginner Row Class with a Certified Coach

  • 2 hours
  • 40 US dollars
  • Port Aquatic Center

Service Description

In this beginner class, you will first learn proper rowing stroke and technique on a rowing ergometer machine. The erg will also help warm up your muscles and get you ready to row on the water! You will then learn about the two different styles of on-water rowing--sweeping and sculling--and the equipment used. Your coach will help you select a boat and teach you the basics of how to maneuver it on the water. To keep our beginner rowers comfortable and dry, we usually start out by either sculling in a pontooned shell (pontoons are like training wheels for rowing shells making them stable on the water) or sweep rowing on our stable, eight-person barge. Everyone progresses at their own speed and comfort level, with the support and encouragement of our amazing coaches.
