Learn to Row and Rowing Packages
Community Rowing of San Diego offers progressive Learn to Row classes for novice rowers, as well as Adult Individual Row, a set of packages for rowers with experience who want to row without a coach. All of CRSD's Learn to Row programs are coached by our USRowing and SafeSport certified volunteer coaches. Level 1 begins with a tour of the boathouse and introduction to rowing and safety equipment, followed by learning the correct rowing stroke on ergometers (indoor rowing machines). Students then head out to the CRSD barge to work on their sweep rowing technique. The barge allows beginner rowers the opportunity to learn the basics of sweep rowing on water while feeling extra secure on a stable boat. After completing a Level 1 class, students can progress to a Level 2: Sculling class where they will learn how to maneuver a single pontooned shell on the water. Pontoons are like training wheels for rowing shells. Learn to Row classes can be purchased individually or with our 3 lessons for the price of 2 package. After progressing through our Learn to Row program, students can start rowing without a coach through one of our affordable Adult Individual Row packages. In these uncoached sessions, CRSD coaches will be available to help rowers select boats and oars and get them down to the water and back up to the boathouse after the rowing session is complete. Students are eventually able to row throughout the San Diego Bay, from Chula Vista to the Coronado Bay Bridge, in our many configurations of available rowing shells.
